Ashkenazi Jewry And It's Thousand Year Uniqueness – a talk by Dr Charles Landau
There have always been elements of differences and antagonisms with the Sephardi and Ashkenazi worlds, but also strong bonds. Discover the rich tapestry of life within Slovakia and the special significance of Bratislava ( Pressburg ) with the famous Jewish personalities of the country over the past centuries.
There is a powerful Jewish element to Slovakia when it was part of the Hungarian Empire and became the bastion of 'Tradition' that made Hungarian / Slovakian Jewry the theatre of orthodoxy in its fight against early reform.
Dr Charles Landau is a Jewish historian of note with a huge following. As an outstanding public speaker, Charles has enlightened thousands of students in the UK and around the world. He has a passion for Jewish history and comparative religion, writing his MA dissertation (at Jews' College) on the 'Christian roots of anti-Semitism. He has advised in the West End production of the Golem, aided Jewish trips abroad and written for journals on a variety of topics. Dr Landau is head of the Jewish Lecture Centre.
